Today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, began an inspection tour of several factories in the 10th of Ramadan City, accompanied by Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones. The tour started with a visit to the Haier Industrial Complex for manufacturing home appliances.

At the start of his tour, the Prime Minister emphasized his commitment to conducting inspection tours of numerous factories in different industrial areas to advance these projects and understand the challenges investors might face, working to resolve them. This reflects the state’s and government’s belief in the significant role of the industrial sector as a cornerstone of the national economy and its drive to lead development in the coming phase.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly noted that the state is currently aiming for the industrial sector to meet the needs of the Egyptian market for all products, in addition to localizing various industries and deepening industry, with the participation of the private sector, which the state relies on during this phase as a key partner in development projects.

The Prime Minister began his tour by learning about the components of the Haier Industrial Complex, listening to an explanation from Engineer Ahmed El-Gendy, General Manager of the company. He noted that Haier is a Chinese company established in 1984 and has been the world’s leading home appliance brand for 15 consecutive years in terms of sales volume and market share according to Euromonitor International. It has received numerous international awards and certifications in home appliance production, operates in over 200 countries, serving more than 3 billion consumers, and owns 122 factories in 30 industrial complexes worldwide. The company continuously develops its products and has established 10 research and development centers across various continents.

El-Gendy discussed “Haier Egypt,” established in 2019 as a regional manufacturing and export center for the Middle East and Africa. He said that at the beginning of 2022, in coordination with the parent company in China, Haier developed a massive investment plan to create a comprehensive industrial complex in Egypt, leveraging the strategic relations between Egypt and China, trade agreements with all Middle Eastern, African, and European countries, and Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development.

During the tour of the industrial complex, the Prime Minister and his entourage were briefed on the company’s investment plan and project implementation stages by Engineer Ahmed El-Gendy. The total investment in the Haier Complex amounts to $135 million in direct foreign investment, covering 200,000 square meters. The complex will include 6 factories (in two phases). The first phase includes 4 factories for producing televisions, washing machines, air conditioners, and their supporting industries, covering 70,000 square meters with an annual production capacity of one million units, 30% for export and 70% for the local market. Initially, the local component will be 60%, increasing to 70% within two years. The trial operation and mass production of televisions and air conditioners began on March 1.

The second phase will involve the production of freezers and refrigerators and their supporting industries, with an investment of $60 million and an annual production capacity of over half a million units. The complex will also include a metal forming factory, plastic injection, and painting facilities to control production inputs and ensure high-quality final products at reasonable prices.

El-Gendy noted that since the Prime Minister’s visit to the complex last November and with continued government support, and the company’s receipt of the golden license among the first companies to obtain it, Haier has successfully added a new production line for central air conditioners. The company is currently considering investing in a separate complex for high-capacity central air conditioners.

El-Gendy also requested a plot of land to complete the project’s second phase, and the Prime Minister has directed that the required land be provided immediately, as well as addressing the company’s request for gas.

In this context, El-Gendy expressed gratitude to the government, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and all concerned parties for their support in implementing the company’s project. He also thanked the Prime Minister for directing the removal of any obstacles or challenges to the project’s operation, which was promptly addressed, contributing to the project’s launch as scheduled.

He added that the industrial complex will provide more than 3,000 job opportunities for Egyptian youth. The company aims to triple production volume over the next five years and achieve a turnover of $200 million within four years. The complex will also include a training center for manufacturing skills and the latest technology to train workers to the highest skill levels for the job market.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly continued his tour of the industrial complex, reviewing the production lines for central air conditioners, metal industries, domestic air conditioners, televisions, and plastic production.

During the visit, factory workers welcomed the Prime Minister, who spoke with several workers to learn about their working conditions, accommodation, and salaries, praising their efforts in producing high-quality home appliances and wishing them continued success.

One worker from Mansoura shared his experience working with another company, which qualified him for this global company, and expressed his happiness working on the project.

The Prime Minister praised the company’s ambitious plans to expand investments and add new production lines to meet local market needs and reduce import costs, aligning with the state’s current objectives in collaboration with committed investors.
